After leaving Gatlinburg, we drove to Cleveland to celebrate Christmas with Brent's family. Brent's mom is such an amazing host and makes everything so special for all of us. As usual, each of us were given a stocking with goodies as well as gifts. The kids LOVE their gifts from Nana and Papa. It was fun staying up late with J.J. and Jeanna talking and laughing! Next year will be a lot different since their will be TWO MORE babies!!! Jeanna is expecting twins...a boy and a girl, who are due to arrive in February. I can not wait to meet them!!

It was also nice to spend time with Papa Petree and Nettie. They came and ate lunch with us the last day we were there and gave the kids gifts too. Our time with them wasn't long enough!!

Always so much fun!! This year, of course, was no different. Love spending time with Brent's family and holding on to traditions that were started many years ago. This year was so special! The kids loved playing with their cousins and smiled from ear to ear the entire time at Dixie Stampede. Love this family!

A Little Scare...

There is no feeling like the one you get when you receive the call to come and pick your child up from school immediately because they've been hurt! Bryar fell off the slide on the playground at school and we had to make a day long trip to the emergency room. This boy is one TOUGH guy!!! I was sure his nose was broken because by the time I got there to pick it up, it was swollen to about three times it's normal size and would NOT stop bleeding. Thankfully, after a few x-rays, we found that it was not broken and only bruised very bad! We are thankful that it was not worse and that Bryar is a strong, healthy three year old...with a perfectly shaped nose!!

Hannah turned one!!! December 13, 2010 was just here, it feels like...I truly can't get over how fast this year has gone by. Hannah Joy has been such a treasure to our family and no doubt lives up to her name. She is a true joy and I can't imagine life without her. We celebrated with a Christmas themed party and invited family and a few of our closest friends to the big bash! The kids made handprint ornaments, angel plates, drank hot chocolate and apple cider, and ate pizza and cake. Hannah loved the cake, of course and really got into opening presents! What a JOY!

Thanksgiving this year was filled with so much. Bryar's Thanksgiving party at school was great! Abbey begged to tag along, and was so sweet to her brother. Abbey planned a family party here at our house. We played "pin the feathers on the turkey," "musical pillows to the song "Any Turkey Can Tango," and dressed up as Indians. We traveled to Tampa to spend the week of Thanksgiving with Brent's family and had a blast. While were were there we made a trip to Busch Gardens. We had so much fun and Abbey even rode her first roller coaster ride (one that went upside down a few times). It was so great to be with Brent's family and share this special time of the year with them! So much to be thankful for!!

Homeschool Fun: 1st Semester!

We have so enjoyed homeschooling our kids so far this year! One thing is for sure, it isn't easy. I'm having to plan ahead more than ever before and my favorite verse has become,"His grace is sufficient, His power is made perfect in our weakness."
(2Corinthians 12:9) I'm seeing what it means to truly rely on Jesus for strength and trust him to help me make the right decisions for my children. The times that we've had so far this year have been beneficial in so many ways. Our schedule is our own. My children play for hours together. I see their "sin" and can help them see it too and teach them how to deal, go to Jesus for help, repent, and rejoice. I can celebrate with them when they make good decisions, learn a new concept, overcome an obstacle. Someone told me that homeschooling "refines" you as a mother...I can see this to be so true. Not only do I see my children's sins more vividly, but I also see my own. Jesus is helping me grow in more ways than I ever thought possible.

Some "fun" moments we have enjoyed this year include our Charlotte's Web party, trips to the farm, the High Museum, Lenox Mall to see Santa and ride the pink pig, many hikes on trails around north Georgia, just to name a few. We've also made many memories learning new concepts, memorizing scripture, making ourselves do things we just don't want to do, and working as a family to take on different tasks around our home. Neglecting the Blog...

Our Summer was PACKED and this poor blog was totally neglected. I hate it because these past few months have been filled with incredible memories and celebrations that I neglected to write about. Here's a few: Brent and I celebrated our 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY and went on a retreat to Vail, Colorado; James David completed 2nd grade; Abbey graduated from Kindergarten; Bryar has entertained us daily with the silliest sayings and songs; Hannah Joy is now almost 9 months and is sitting up and just got in her first tooth, and the day I'm (just to be honest) dreading is about to arrive...she's on the brink of crawling (I know life changes in major ways when a child is mobile and wants to eat every little Polly Pocket shoe or Star Wars figure gun that is found on the floor); James David and Abbey joined the swim team; Our family spent 7 days vacationing in Punta Gorda, Florida with my mom, sister and brother's families (7 adults, 8 kids under 8...three bedrooms...you get the picture); we have began a brand new journey of home schooling James David and Abbey; Bryar started 3 year Pre-K (a day I thought I'd celebrate, but seriously was a bit emotional watching him enter school for the first time).

With all of this, I'm hoping to join the blogging world again with more frequent updates. God has been so good to our family these past few months and we are thankful for his MANY blessings. Here are some snap shots from our packed summer:

Some Thoughts on Loving Your Husband...

I'm reading through Carolyn Mahaney's book, "Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother," and wanted to share a few things that stood out to me about loving our husbands…

1) We need to be careful that we don't get too busy "serving" that we neglect enjoying and loving our husband.

2) When our marriage seems to be "on the rocks", the questions shouldn't be "Should I stay in this marriage?" According to God's Word, the question you should be asking is: "How can I, as a wife, bring honor to the Gospel?"

3) If you are in an exceptionally trying situation with your husband, pour your heart out to the Lord of love. He knows, He sees, and He hears; and though your tears may be lost on your husband, they are not lost on your heavenly Father. He urges us to draw near to Him so "that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Heb 4:16)

4) We have to "keep our hearts with all vigilance" (Prov. 4:23). In order to cultivate and maintain a tender love for our husbands, we must guard our hearts against sin. Our emotions are a warning system God graciously gave us to attract attention to the sin of our hearts. When we're not experiencing loving feelings toward our husbands, that's an alarm going off.

5) Elizabeth Elliot writes in "Love Has a Price Tag": "A wife, if she is generous, may allow that her husband lives up to perhaps eighty percent of her expectations. There is always the other twenty percent of her expectations that she would like to change, and she may chip away at it for the whole of their married life without reducing it by very much. She may, on the other hand, simply decide to enjoy the eighty percent, and both of them will be happy." (ouch, so good)

6) In our wedding ceremony vows, we promise to "love and cherish till death do us part." To cherish means to hold dear, to care for tenderly or to nurture, to cling fondly to, or treat as precious. How do you make your husband feel cherished?

7) One of the most loving things we can do for our children is to prize our husbands. It provides a wonderful security in their lives, and it presents a biblical model for them and their future marriage. We want our daughters to prize their future husbands; and for our sons, we want them to find wives who will prize them.

Good Friday is a precious and sacred time with our family. For the last several years, Brent has led us in communion as we are reminded of the death and resurrection of Jesus and celebrate His life on Easter weekend. This year, through our very busy schedule, we made sure not to neglect this time. On Friday evening before Easter, Brent sat the kids down and we participated in communion together. Bryar loved drinking juice and eating the bread, but for the first time, I saw the beauty of this sacred element that the Lord commands become so real to Abbey and James David. It was an absolute beautiful and memorable moment. We were blessed with lovely weather on Easter Day and enjoyed lunch and a fun Easter Egg hunt at my parent's house that afternoon. Here are some pictures from our weekend...

One week later I over heard James David and Abbey having a conversation while eating pizza that went something like this:
Abbey: James, let's have community
James David: Ok, we can use our pizza
Abbey: (Taking a piece of crust) James, do this.
James: (pulls off a piece of crust)
Abbey: This represents God's body. We will remember him while we eat.
James and Abbey: (eat the bread)
James: I'll do the next part, the pizza sauce can represent his blood
Abbey: No James, we have to drink the blood
James: This is the blood..we think about the blood Jesus shed on the cross while we drink

I need Two Hands to tell you how old I am..I'm 6 today!!!

Sweet, beautiful, joyful, smiling, dreaming, charming, fairy tell, rambunctious, kind-hearted....words that describe my oldest daughter, Emily Abigail. Six years ago my life was changed for the better when I looked into my beautiful daughter's eyes for the first time. I will never forget that moment. The beauty and pureness that I saw in her that moment was just a glimpse of what followed. Now, 6 years later, those eyes still shine just as bright and are a constant reminder of God's love for me. Abbey turns six today. She no longer can use one hand to show others how old she is...it's time for two. Pretty soon she'll run out of fingers, but for now, I'll cherish the little girl that she is. She is all girl, and nothing less. She loves playing with her brothers...but she is different from them. Her heart is for the "pretty things" in life. She loves playing "wedding" with her Barbie dolls. She's in the last stage of admiring Disney Princess (and I'm holding on to this and squeezing out every last "drop" of her admiration for these characters), she admires her daddy and her love for him is something I just can't explain. She loves to play dress up still and will make the most beautiful fairy princess you have ever seen. Her heart is purely for Jesus which has been so real to me as I'll see her worshiping him out of the corner of my eye in the back of our van while she's watching a Kid's Hillsongs Video. I pray for her. I seek the Lord for her...that her love for Him will continue to remain pure and just. That as she grows and is exposed to the harshness and struggles of this life that inside her, a hope for Him and trust in Him will only enlarge and amplify through the pains of this world. I know that the coming years bring change. She will no longer desire to make believe like she does today. She will trade in her Barbies for make up and ear rings (which she won't be getting until she is 10), but I'm fighting for her childhood..I'm pushing against the culture of this world so that she can remain an adolescent whose innocence out-weighs the lies of this earth. My prayer for her is that of hope. My prayer for her is that of trust. I pray she will not trade the trust in Jesus that she has for the falseness of the world. I've started praying scripture over her life and will continue to do this as long as she lives. I trust in Jesus for her life, for her salvation, for her anticipation of things eternal...
"My daughter, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad; my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right. Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Abbey's American Girl Birthday

It's so hard to believe my baby girl will be six years old tomorrow. I'm going to post again on her birthday but wanted to share pictures from her party. She loves loves loves American Girl. Her Nana and Papa bought Abbey her first American Girl "Bitty Baby" when she was one and her first doll (who she's always called "Little Sister Doll") when she was three (see post from 2008). Abbey and three of her sweet little friends celebrated at the American Girl Bistro Saturday. It was the sweetest party and I don't think a minute went by when their wasn't a smile on Abbey's face. Brent's dad, who has dedicated all of our children, led us in dedicating our precious Hannah Joy on Sunday, April 9. Three of Brent's Aunts and his sweet Nana came to celebrate with us. Both of our parents and my sister's family were here as well. We are so grateful for our 4th child and praise Jesus for her life. We give her to God, who has entrusted her to us during this short time here. Praying that she'll know and love him, that His hand would be on her life, and that He would give us wisdom in training her to live passionately for Him...

Spring Break

This year we enjoyed a slow and relaxing Spring Break with not much on the calendar for the week. It was nice being able to sleep in and not have to rush the kids to school or to an appointment. We stayed around the house most of the week but did go to visit Nana and Papa Stephens and Nana and Papa Burrows for the day. Sweet, sweet, sweet...that's all I can say! This baby has been such a blessing to our family and we are soaking up every second of her as an infant. The kids love her! They argue about whose turn it is to bathe her or feed her. She is loving her bath now and would stay in it for hours, I think, if I let her. She's doing great with the bottle and sleeps 7-10 hours at night. I couldn't have asked for a better baby and she is truly living up to the meaning of her name (grace, favor, and of course...joy)! I love being her mommy and I so enjoy watching her grow a little everyday.

Here is a short list of things that Bryar has done in the past week...

* Opened Hannah's formula in the backseat of the car, tried to eat it like candy, and emptied all of it in the backseat of my new van

* Saw me painting Abbey's nails and told me he didn't like "white", begging me to paint his nails green

* While grocery shopping, pointed to a lady in front of us and shouts "Mommy look at her BIG booty"

* Went upstairs to bring me his pajamas when I told him I'd help him get dressed and comes down with his underwear on his head...

* Says "Oh! I don't like that, it hurst" when he poked himself in the face on purpose with his fork at dinner...

* Told me Hannah punched him and I need to "pank her boddum"

JD...Little Fire Ball

James David just completed his second season of basketball. He has improved so much since playing last year. It is so fun to watch him play. He is one of the tiniest boys in his league but his size doesn't effect his ability to "bring it" on the court. He scored baskets in just about every game. He has learned how to be a "team player," pass, steal, dribble, and pivot. He practices all the time and enjoys playing with kids in our neighborhood. So proud of this kid! He's also making straight A's in school (his lowest grade was a 96). He talks about sharing his faith with his friends. I love him...love his heart, love his personality. I'm so thankful for this boy and we pray every night that the Lord would help him increase in "wisdom" and in "stature" and in "favor" with God and man.

Reading Rapunzel and Saying Goodbye to Training Wheels...

I am so proud of Abbey. Just in the past two weeks she has learned to ride her bike without training wheels and grown to an entirely new level in reading. One thing I see that has helped in both of these areas is her confidence level. Once she saw she truly had the ability to do these things, she went for it! I pray she will always have confidence when facing challenges in her life. I'm praying that her heart will stay pure for the Lord as she sings about him everyday. I pray that she will know who she is in Him and seek His ways. So proud of my baby girl who is not so much a baby any more...

Stealing Moments from Eternity

My heart has been so heavy this week. Our previous Overseer's Wife whom we worked for in Louisiana was told 22 months ago that she had stage 4 colon cancer at age 47. Last week she was put in the hospital for an infection only to learn that the cancer has spread and there is nothing more doctor's can do to help her. She has been given days to live.

When we were in Orlando, Matt Chandler, a pastor in Texas, shared his story about being diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. He was told the outcome was not good. He has been used mightily by the Lord and has a beautiful young family.

I was told last week that my heart condition hasn't improved since having Hannah. I had to stop nursing and start taking stronger medications.

Through these different situations this past month, I am reminded once again that we are living in only a glimpse of time. God's plan is far greater than we could ever grasp and our time on this earth is limited. Does that make me sad? Yes, but I'm starting to see life a little differently. How great that our Father would allow us to treasure in the things of this world that bring joy to our hearts. Our family, our babies, our growing children….the beautiful sunset, the waves of the ocean, the peaks of the mountains. This world has nothing on what eternity will be for those who follow Christ. In fact, heaven will be far greater than any of the things that give us joy on earth. Each moment that we live is only a step closer to our final destination. It brings a great sense of peace when you think about it.

This world is only temporary. We aren't promised tomorrow. We aren't promised good health. We aren't promised another kiss from our husbands or another hug from our children. I pray that I will cherish each moment God gives me with the ones I love. I will hug a little tighter, stay a little longer, open my eyes a little wider to the blessings God has bestowed on us during this short time as I'm getting one step closer to eternity with my Savior.

Today is the last day that my sweet baby boy will be "two." He is having a birthday tomorrow and turning three years old. I can barely believe that three years have past since God gave me the gift of my second son. Bryar is a strong spirited boy with the sweetest disposition that will make anyone's heart melt with his precious smile and cute words. We will celebrate as a family tomorrow and throw a little party for him this weekend. Before the week gets crazy, I wanted to post a few things that define Bryar's life at this time.
1) He loves his daddy! One of Bryar's most favorite things in the world is jumping on the trampoline with Brent. It doesn't matter if it's 30 degrees outside, when Brent comes home from the office, this is more than likely the first thing Bryar asks to do. He also loves to go with daddy to the office. Just being with Brent makes him happy. I hope he will always know just how much his daddy loves him and desire to learn and grow by looking to his father!
2) He loves his big brother! James David will always have a #1 fan. Bryar asks everyday where James David is and runs to the door to greet his big brother when he gets off the bus. Bryar loves to play Nerf guns, G.I. Joe, cars, and "anything" outside with James. He idolizes him and loves being around him. I have to say that James David is definitely a good big brother as well! He is so good with Bryar and shows so much patience. I am loving the bond that has formed between them and look forward to a growing lifelong friendship between these two brothers.
3) Bryar loves Mac! Yes, he's already a techno "techie"...pretty much had no choice to join the "Mac Club." He loves to play with my I Phone or Brent's I Pad. He's already beat a few high scores on Angry Birds.
4) He tells me he loves me all the time....and definitely melts my heart. Out of the blue, Bryar will say "Mama...." and I'll say "yes Bryar..." "I yuv you"....sweetest part of my day, for sure.
5) Bryar calls his Nerf guns..."Nerf or nothing" because this is what the commercial says on T.V.
6) Bryar loves church and seeing his friends. This is a biggie considering a year ago he would cry pretty much the entire service when I left him. He's definitely over the separation anxiety.
7) Bryar loves his Nana and Papa (both of them). As soon as he sees them he'll run as fast as he can to give them a hug. He doesn't care at all if mommy and daddy leave as long as Nana and Papa are around!
8) He loves to sing. He especially loves for me to play songs on my computer that show videos of children singing. His favorite right now is 1 Timothy 4:12 "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young....but set an example for the believers...in speech, in life..., in love..., in faith and in purity" He sings this song all the time. (and I love it)

Hannah is alert and awake a lot during the day. She's started smiling and cooing. She is sleeping pretty good at night also! Seven to nine hours is definitely good for me

Don't let this picture fool you...she HATES her bath..still. Hopefully soon she will stop screaming the ENTIRE time and relax and enjoy...but at least she's adorable in her bath towel when all is said and done..

Resurgence Orlando 2011

Brent and I have been in Orlando this week at Resurgence, an Acts29 Conference. I've really enjoyed the conference and feel so refreshed and renewed. Hannah Joy came with us and she has been absolutely perfect. Here are a few highlights from the conference:

1) When is the last time you have been undone by the glimpse of His holiness and the knowledge of your depravity?

2) Anytime you see doom and heartache in the world it is our cry for a savior to come and save us from our sin.

3) When someone "gets away" with sin, it's not God's grace allowing them to "get off free…." it's His judgement and wrath. If you don't feel conviction to repentance it could be God turning you over to that sin. The evidence of God's grace is a repentant heart.

4) Focus on what He did for you, not what you can do. Become consumed by Jesus's work for you and you'll grow. Become consumed by your work for Him and you'll "shrink."

5) If the Holy Spirit is actively working in you inwardly, it will effect every area of your life "outwardly"…can other's see His work in you?

6) We struggle not that our good behavior can earn God's favor, but that we can keep God's favor. Our hearts are naturally set that our behavior can keep the favor of God.

7) We start thinking we are the center when we focus on our sin more than our Savior. Christian growth doesn't happen by behaving better, but by believing better!

8) If you are living in a place where you are dependent on human approval and acceptance, you're living in a prison. Only the gospel will set you free. When we are united to Christ, we don't have to earn approval and acceptance of others because Christ has already earned it. True freedom is living your life knowing that you already have been accepted by Christ.

9) If you are suffering today, consider it discipline from the Lord and He loves you like his daughter.

Weekly Devotions

I'm sending out weekly devotions/words of encouragement to the ladies of Four Points and thought I'd start posting them on my blog.. Here's the one from this week:

"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

Have you ever felt so overwhelmed with life that it as if you feel crippled? I have. I know there have been times in my past when I have felt scared over a situation or worried about a circumstance…even to the point of keeping me tossing and turning all night.

Hannah Joy is such a good baby. However, just like any baby, she cries. I have started to figure out her cries now….she has a cry for hunger, a cry for "change me", a cry for "hold me", and I even think she may have a cry for "I'm bored." As a mom, you figure out these things and you feel tremendous responsibility to give your child what she needs and reassure her that everything is ok.

God's love for us resembles this. I can't imagine a love any greater than that of a mother's love for her child. However, God's love is the greatest love of all. He loves us. He wants to quiet us. He wants to calm the restlessness within our soul. Those of you who are moms know the horrible feeling of a baby that WILL NOT quit crying. I wonder if God feels this way about us when we won't allow him to quiet us with His love?

Is there a cry within your soul right now? Are you crying for healing? Are you crying for restoration? Are you crying for relationships? God hears your cry, he knows the different yearnings of your heart. I pray that in those restless, sleepless nights, you will go to God. Allow him to give you peace. He takes delight in you and loves you with an indescribable love. REST in Him, for you are his child!

Snow WEEK!!

We enjoyed an entire week off because of snow a few weeks ago. The kids and I did not leave the house for 6 days straight. We got 7 inches of snow and with the freezing cold weather, the roads stayed icy all week. It was great drinking hot cocoa, playing games, enjoying family times all week long. James David and Abbey set up camp in the play room (literally slept in a tent three nights) and I pretty much let the house "go" and let the kids play, play, play. So much fun, but 6 days is long enough not to get out! Here's some pics from our week...

It was nice spending New Years at home this year. We had a mini fireworks show for the kids and roasted marshmellows in the firepit. The kids also enjoyed making ice cream Sundaes. Looking forward to a brand new year and making many more precious memories like these with our family of 6!

Christmas 2010

Christmas was a little different this year with an almost two week old...but we were able to see all of our family. Brent's family drove down and opened presents at our house a few days before Christmas and we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day at my parents. We got snowed in at my parents' house and had to stay an extra night. Bryar loved opening presents this year more than any other. All the kids were blessed with great presents and it was nice staying home the majority of our break and letting them play with all of their new toys. We drove to Brent's parents the week after Christmas and spent the day with his Aunt and Uncle from Michigan and his grandfather. We loved being with family and introducing everyone to our little Christmas gift, Hannah Joy!

Hannah is so special to our family already and has brought so much joy just in the few short weeks that she's been here. The kids were so excited to meet their baby sister. James David and Abbey have loved holding her and have been such an amazing help. Bryar wasn't really interested at first but has started warming up and definitely doesn't like it when she cries. Abbey glows when she looks at her and loves to talk to her baby sister and tell her how much she loves her. It brings me so much happiness to see a bond already formed between them. Our family is definitely different with Hannah and things are a little harder, but I couldn't imagine life without her.

Hannah Joy was born December 13 at 12:40 pm. After being on bed rest for the past month, I was so anxious this time around and so very ready to meet her. This time was much different than my experience with Bryar. As they were operating, I had a complete peace that she would be ok. As soon as she was delivered, I heard the sweet cry that gives the relief of knowing she's here and she's ok. Brent and I were so thankful that their were no complications with her birth or her breathing. She was able to go to recovery with us and stayed with us the remainder of our time at the hospital. She is an absolute blessing and completes our family in the perfect way. Here are pictures of her birth...

Thanksgiving 2010...a little different this year

This year we were supposed to spend Thanksgiving Day with my (Sarah's) family in Newnan. We planned to go to Cleveland to spend a little time with Brent's family the beginning of the week and then head down to my family on Thanksgiving Day to stay a few days. We were able to spend two wonderful days with Brent's family. We got to hang out with Jeanna, J.J., and sweet Ava and enjoy special times with Brent's Nana and Aunts and Uncles. We came back Tuesday in time for a doctor's appointment which ended with a good report. On Wednesday, I had a stress test scheduled at my OBGYN which ended in a visit to the hospital and an ordered "bed rest" until I deliver Hannah Joy. My fluids were low and Hannah Joy wasn't responding as much as they'd like so they sent me to be monitored. Things looked better at the hospital but I was told that Thanksgiving would be spent in bed this year. Thankfully, Brent's parents came and took care of us for a few days. I hated that I missed time with my family but know there will be other Thanksgivings once Hannah Joy arrives healthy and whole.
I am trusting God like never before with my health and the health of my baby girl. A heart condition developed over this pregnancy has strengthened my faith in more ways than I've ever dreamed. I know it won't be too much longer before I'm holding this precious gift that will make all of the weary nights and recent fearful trials seem like blemishes in my life. I'm so thankful for the strength that only Jesus can give. I'm thankful that I don't have to put trust in man, but trust a God who gives life and peace. I'm thankful for a loving family that will drop everything to care for me and my children. I'm thankful for a church that goes above and beyond to pray at all hours of the day and night. I'm thankful for a husband who helps to hold me all together when I feel like I'm falling apart. I'm so very blessed and pray that my life will continually represent a heart of thankfulness in all seasons, even when things aren't going as planned, knowing ultimately that a loving, merciful, powerful God is completely in control.

I was determined to get our Christmas tree up early this year so all would be ready when Hannah Joy decides to make her grand entrance. It felt a little different putting the tree up the weekend after Halloween, but it was still special for the kids. In fact, James David and Abbey pretty much unwrapped all of the ornaments and put them on the tree all by themselves. They loved it! With Christmas music playing in the background and reminiscing over the kids' special handmade and hand "picked" ornaments over the past years, it ended up being a pretty fun evening for our family.

I was very blessed to be given a shower for my 4th child. Some of the incredibly sweet ladies from church hosted a shower for Hannah Joy. I'm so thankful that my mom, sister, sister-in-law, and Abbey were able to be a part of the special day. It's hard to believe that she will be here in less than two months. This pregnancy has definitely been challenging but has gone by so quick. I'm trying to enjoy these last few weeks because I know that I will never experience carrying a child again. It is such an amazing feeling. I can't wait to meet my daughter for the first time and introduce her to her big brothers and sister. I am beyond blessed and so very thankful for all God has given me. He truly is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we may ask or imagine. Here are some pics from the special day:

Fall Break 2010: Disney!!!!

We had the BEST Fall Break this year!!! We flew to Tampa to visit Brent's parents and drove to Disney for three days. The kids had an amazing time. This was Bryar's first trip to see Mickey Mouse and boy did he love it!! We went to Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. The only request I have about visiting Disney is next time I do NOT want to be pregnant!!! (and I definitely won't be!!!) Here are a few pics from our incredible time with Nana and Papa in Florida:

I have so enjoyed the one-on-one time I've had with Bryar since the kids have started school. His personality has developed into quite the adventurous two and a half year old. He loves to play with anything in sight and will paint a master piece on our walls if I leave him alone for more than 3 minutes. He pretends to be Bibleman, Spiderman, or just a "roaring dinosaur" and imagines himself "fighting the bad guys." He has done great with potty training and is talking more and more each day. He loves to water paint, go to the park, eat peanut butter and jelly, and play "Angry Birds" with daddy's Ipad. He loves to run outside and give his sister and brother a "welcome home "hug when they come home from school. I love this little boy more than life!!!

James David loves 2nd grade and is really enjoying Mrs. Dean and his best friend Jake who is in his class. He loves riding the bus home and is making straight "A's". He is learning about each of the United States right now, counting money, and adding and subtracting "Doubles." He has become quite the reader and has read every book in the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. He's still into Mighty Beanz and Star Wars and loves wrestling on the floor with Bryar and daddy more than anything! He's got the sweetest personality and is so considerate of others. James David is playing baseball this Fall and is becoming quite the player. He and Brent throw ball in the back yard all the time and James is loving playing for the Giants. The past few weeks he has done extremely well and hasn't "struck out" once! He looks forward to his games and practices and says that he has "finally" found his sport! Kindergarten Fun...What's happening with Abbey

Abbey is enjoying Kindergarten so much and is blossoming even more into the tiny social butterfly she's always been. I hear about "play dates" she's planned with her friends all the time (she even writes down her phone number and tells her friends to have their mom call her mom)! She's learning to read and comes home talking about the fun things she is learning about everyday. She adores Mr. Harrison and never gets in trouble. She LOVES collecting "fish" to earn a trip to the treasure box. She is the sweetest five year old and I'm so enjoying her "grow" into a little girl. She loves her babies and barbies and will dress up every time she gets a chance. We had to make room for Hannah Joy so Abbey and James David are now sharing a room which has worked out great. I'll have to post some pictures soon. Here are some of the recent "happenings" in Kindergarten:

Mystery Reader and "Star Student": I read Abbey's favorite book, "The Little Sister Doll" and took in her "Little Sister" (American Girl) to show the class. Abbey's so excited to meet her "real" little sister soon!!!

This post is about two months late but I couldn't leave it out! Maddy Ann, our cousin (niece) turned 3 in August right after school started. The kids and I drove to Macon for the day to be a part of the fun! Becca and Jeremy rented a huge water slide that was a definite "hit". The kids had a blast. Hard to believe Maddy is 3! We love you Maddy Ann and are so glad we got to be a part of your special day!!

We had an amazing summer that I truthfully did not want to end. The only thing that is makes me excited about starting school is knowing that Hannah Joy will arrive sooner. I absolutely love having all my kids at home with me and think that one day homeschooling may be a reality in our home. But for now, it is best for my children to attend public school while I focus on my "alone time" with Bryar before the new addition arrives.

Orando/St. Augustine

The General Assembly for the Church of God was held in Orlando, Florida this year. We tagged along with Brent and headed down for the week. Thankfully, my mom came to help with the kids. We had such a great time. We stayed at our condo pretty much the entire time while Brent went to meetings all day. Our condo had great pools, paddle boats, and all types of fun things for the kids. My mom and I took the kids to Sea World one day as well. Despite the INSANE heat, we had such a great time. The kids loved the shows and fun kiddie rides. We hope to go back again when it's not sooooo hot! After Assembly, we headed to St. Augustine Beach with Brent's parents for a few days. We had an awesome trip and enjoyed our time with them so very much! The kids loved seeing the historic fort in St. Augustine and had a blast at the beach. We definitely took advantage of our last full week of summer. What a great vacation!!

We are excited to announce that a new addition is coming to our family!!! Hannah Joy Stephens should make her arrival sometime before Christmas. We are all so excited to meet her (especially her big sister!!) When Abbey found out we were having a girl she said, "I just knew it!!!" She has literally been praying for a baby sister for the past two years! God has answered her prayers! God is so good and we can't wait to become a family of 6!!! We picked the name Hannah because I absolutely love the meaning of the name: God's Favor and Grace; Joy is after Brent's mom (Joyce). Joy means "contentment." It is my prayer that Hannah will always find contentment in God, bring JOY to all those she encounters, and that God would show her Grace and Favor all the days of her life! WE CAN NOT WAIT TO MEET YOU HANNAH JOY!!!

James David turned 7 on May 6. His big gift was the DC trip so we didn't have a big party this year. I took cupcakes to his school and I let him choose dinner. We stayed at the house and grilled hotdogs (his favorite). The kids played in the water and we hid James David's presents for a "scavenger hunt." His favorite gift was "Mighty Beanz." He is growing up so fast. He's so precious and loves Jesus. He loves to read books at night and write in his journal. He still enjoys playing Starwars with Abbey while she plays with her princesses. Abbey turned 5 on April 26. We celebrated by having a party at DAC Kids with 27 of her closest friends...yes I did say "27." Abbey is miss "social butterfly" and we could not leave anyone out when passing out invitations. She was so excited about her party. She had so much fun and was absolutely worn out by the time we got home. Abbey is such a blessing and always (well, almost always..) has a smile on her face. She is full of joy and energy...full of life! I'm so thankful for a beautiful, healthy, fun-loving daughter and it is such a pleasure watching her grow older. She still loves anything princess and wants to be a "rock star" but will take her brother down when they play Star Wars. Abbey, you are loved more than you will ever know!!! One of the schools that I work for asked me to come help with testing in DC. Thanks to my mother-in-law for agreeing to watch Abbey and Bryar, we decided to let James David tag along and make this an early Birthday gift from us! Despite the fact that we ended up having to drive 10 hours at the last minute (thanks, Air Tran), we had an absolutely incredible time and it was a great "first time visit" for James David. We stayed right out of DC in Silver Spring, MD and took the metro into the city. I spent Monday with the boys and they had their time Tuesday and Wednesday while I worked. I can't believe I haven't updated the blog in over a month! I guess this will have to be a random update of some "highlights" of March and April. I'm going to give our Washington DC trip and Abbey's birthday their own post...because they are extra special. Sooooo...here are a few things that have gone on in our lives lately:
LADIES RETREAT...This year, we held Four Points Ladies Retreat in Young Harris, Georgia at Brasstown Valley Resort. It was absolutely amazing. 40 ladies attended this year and we had such a great time. Here are some pics from the weekend...

Spring Break....
We spent the week close to home but did travel to see Jeanna and JJ for the night. We took the kids to Babyland (Cabbage Patch Headquarters) and went over to my sweet Aunt Mae's house to let the kids swing on her big tree swing (the same swing I played on as a little girl). We ended the week with my cousin's wedding. James David was the ring bearer and did a fantastic job. He was such a stud!

Easter Weekend...
Brent's parents came for a visit the weekend of Easter. It worked out perfect because an awesome friend from church hooked us up with 4 Braves tickets. Brent's parents watched Bryar and we took James David and Abbey to the first game of the season. It was so nice having them here for Easter as well. We had a great day at Four Points and continue to give thanks for all God is doing in our church!

We baptized 8 people last month (I've been so slack about updating the blog, but didn't want to leave this out). It is awesome to see lives being changed. When we moved here two and a half years ago, this was what kept us going....knowing that God had us here to make a difference in the lives of people for the sake of Christ. The dream is now a reality. God is doing amazing things in our church and I'm so thankful that we are able to be a part. James David had been anxiously awaiting this moment. His tooth was extremely loose for some time, and he was done with it! Brent came up with the idea of tying a string around the tooth and pulling. This did not work, and James David was not happy about it. Brent gave the tooth a pull (which made JD cry)..still didn't work. Finally, I stepped in and "gently" gave the stubborn tooth a "little" yank...and you guessed it..a mom's touch! James David was so excited that the Tooth Fairy came to visit after all the drama!

Where's Bryar??? That's the question of the hour these days. Quietness equals trouble in our house. This picture was taken on Monday (when Brent was watching Bryar). He managed to climb on the table, open the box to his cake, and eat the half of the remaining icing. Two hours later...we paid!!! He caught a stomach bug and was literally up all night throwing up. His carpet will be a constant reminder of this second birthday party...blue icing and chili. Yes, a night I will never forget!

Two years ago I was in the hospital still waiting to hold my baby for the first time. Bryar was born on February 7, 2008 and taken straight to the NICU due to fluid in his little lungs. 24 hours later I held my baby boy for the first time. He was precious, so helpless, yet so strong. Now, two years later, I have a toddler who is full of health and life. God is so good! I find myself wanting to hold on to his "babiness" a little longer. Time seems to fly these days. Before I can blink he will be starting Kindergarten and then taking life on as a little boy just like his big brother. These days do get tiresome with three little children, however, I will fight to make the most of every second I am blessed to share with them as they are still little. I rock a little longer at night, sing just one more song, and go back and check on them while they are sleeping, just one more time. As these days go by, I pray that God will give me the strength, patience, and wisdom I need to gear their lives for the future. For now, I am thankful that they are mine. I am thankful that Bryar, who is most definitely a two year old now, is a part of our family. He is so special to us and will forever hold my heart. I love you Bryar Hamilton and look forward to many many more of your birthdays!!

"Annie" came to the Fox Theater this month. My friend Erin and I made a last minute decision to take our girls. It was awesome! This was my first time to the Fox (and Abbey's too). Abbey LOVED it. The show started at 7:00 and we didn't leave until almost 10:00 pm. I was worried that she might not last, but she did! I foresee many more shows at the Fox!!

We spent the night at my parents' house Sunday night and spent MLK day with them Monday. It was nice to relax, stay in our jammies, and spend the day with them. James David played in his first basketball game with Upward this past weekend. His team won 12-2!!! James David got a star for best defense...He's a little firecraker out on the court!

Before the game started, his team lined up in the hall. Bryar wanted to play too...

Upward is such a great program. Each player's name is announced and the team huddles for prayer before the game begins.

I'm sure this will be the start to many more games!!!

What every kid loves to hear! We had a snow day today. School was cancelled and it's freezing outside. It's funny to think that a 1/2 of inch of snow would cancel school all over Atlanta. Especially considering the fact that when we lived in Omaha, it was nothing to get 3 feet of snow...life would go on as normal. Yesterday as it was snowing, James David and Bryar played in it a little while. Abbey was at a friend's house, so she isn't in the pictures.

Today, I didn't let them go outside because it was frigid cold. We stayed in our pajamas until noon, played games, toys, and enjoyed a low-key day while Brent studied at the office. I LOVE days like today.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

We went to my parents like we do every year for Christmas Eve. James David helped hang the stockings this year. He made sure to write everyone's name on their stocking and hung them exactly where he thought they should go (16 of them, to be exact). James David was the first to wake up Christmas morning and could not wait to see his gifts from Santa. Bryar soon followed, and then Abbey. We spent the day playing with our new toys and hanging out with family. That evening my brother's family arrived and we opened presents. It was pretty much chaos, but a lot of fun!

Christmas with Nana and Papa Stephens

We stopped in Cleveland on our way home from Stephens Family Christmas to spend a few nights with Brent's parents. Jeanna and J.J were there and we had a great time hanging out with them. They are expecting a baby girl in June and we are so excited about it! Brent's mom cooked an awesome Christmas meal and the kids were so excited to open their gifts from Nana and Papa.

Stephens Family Christmas 2009

This year for Stephens Family Christmas we went to Pigeon Forge with all of Brent's family. We stayed at the Music Inn and went to Dixie Stampede. The kids loved playing with their cousins and Brent and I had so much fun playing games late into the night. We are so blessed to be a part of a family that makes sure we meet each year and spend time together. This year, Brent's Nana had "Special Artifacts" that she passed down to the grandchildren. Brent was given a pocket knife that his grandfather used. This was such a special gift. I know he will cherish it. Here are some pictures from our time in Pigeon Forge:

Making Cookies and a Gingerbread House

We make homemade Christmas cookies and decorate a Gingerbread house every year. This year we took our cookies to Stephens Family Christmas to share with the family. Our Gingerbread house was fun, but fell apart 10 minutes after we made it..oh well!
